HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO BUDGET FOR THIS TRIP?

Swipe left and right to view the STANDARD or the ECONOMICAL budget option:

The cost of the trip may vary depending on how many days you decide to join us for and the choices you make for yourself in terms of accommodations, food, transportation and activities. Most travelers in our community tend to opt for a standard budget option when planning their trips which we calculate based on the following level of travel experience:

  • 🛌 Sleep in comfortable and convenient yet affordable airbnbs or hotel rooms
  • 🍽️ Eat in good restaurants while mixing in some street foods and the occasional high-end fancier options
  • 🚗 Use public transport or get an Uber/taxi based on the need to balance affordability with convenience
  • 🕺Participate in multiple paid fun activities each week unless too expensive

We also provide an economical budget option for the travelers who want to participate in the trip but at a lower price point which is calculated based on the following:

  • 🛌 Sleep in the most affordable options available, typically a hostel bed or a basic room
  • 🍽️ Eat in cheaper restaurants and have street food or get groceries to cook for yourself
  • 🚗 Opt for public transport or walk to most places but take Uber/taxis if affordable
  • 🕺Participate in the occasional paid activity if affordable

  • 🗣️ Language: Malay is universally spoken, English is also widely spoken. There are large ethnic communities in the city that speak cantonese, mandarin and Tamil.
  • ☀️ climate/weather: Almost at the equator (3 degrees north) so tropical weather all year – with high humidity, warm temperature (23-33°C | 73-91°F) expect some rain but mostly afternoon showers (torrential at times but they typically do not last long)

Most countries can get visa-free entry or apply for an e-visa for 30-90 day visits depending on the country.

Kuala Lumpur has a great international airport and a regional hub with many cheap flight options to the rest of Southeast Asia ($50-$100 each way) but also the middle east ($200-$300), Europe ($250-$350 each way) , Australia ($100-$200 each way) and North America ($400-$550 each way).

The KLIA Ekspress train can get you to the city in ~30mn for a cost of ~$13 (55rm) or use the grab app with rides from the airport costing ~$10-$20

Kuala Lumpur has a good rapid transit metro system with 12 lines with trains running every few minutes, you can just tap your phone to get in or get a Touch’n’Go reloadable smart card – the cost per trip is ~$0.50-$1 (2-4rm). One can also walk around as many neighborhoods are best explored by foot (ex: old center) but keep in mind that it can get hot mid-day.

Alternatively, the grab app is the best option to hail a ride with prices in the $2-$10 range depending on the journey.

With a great public transportation system and affordable ride sharing service (Grab), one has a lot of flexibility as to where to stay but most visitors opt to stay centrally in the golden triangle, the old city center , Kampung Baru, chow kit or adjacent neighborhoods.
